In the United States, the average size of family homes grew from 1780 ft.² in 1978 to 2662 ft.² in 2013. Common reasons for the difference is increased material wealth and peoples higher incomes.   

Well, things have now taken a major decrease.  The Tiny House Movement has invaded all corners of the US. They have become a social movement. People are choosing to downsize their living space and live with less. It’s time to embrace the tiny life philosophy and the freedom that comes with tiny house lifestyle. 
What are tiny homes?
​These homes are a far cry from what most people believe are the average size house. The tiny home is usually between 100 and 400 ft.².

Price of an average size house 
When you look at the price of a house, you have got to look at the entire cost, not just the purchase price.
Let’s say you found an average sized house and bought it for a purchase price of $290,000. You had a down payment of $58,000. The principle that you finance will be $232,000. Interest @ 6.41%; total equals $291,000 (after tax, 33% tax bracket) $195,000, taxes and insurance @ $6000 per year equals $180,000, maintenance at $300 per month equals $300,000, the total amount that you would pay for this house is: $1,073,000. 

Price of a tiny home 
Wondering why The Tiny House Movement has become so popular? The average cost of a tiny home is much lower than the price of an average sized home. 

Once the tiny home is bought, upkeep is relatively low. A lot depends on where you put the tiny home. Of course, you will pay insurance and taxes, or you might pay a land payment if you are buying it.

Current tiny house market trends show tiny house prices are between $40,000 and $70,000.

Is a tiny home right for you ?
It’s always nice to have money. 68% of tiny house owners don’t have a mortgage. That’s compared with 29% of typical home owners.

Tiny house living is a truly big decision that shouldn’t be entered into lightly. Especially if you have a big house full of stuff. You are going from that big house to something about the size of a RV.

Building a tiny house on wheels (THOW)
The advantages of building a tiny house on wheels. There’s mobility and you’ll get around any local rules that dictate minimum structure size. Since it’s not a permanent foundation, it normally isn’t governed by local building codes. Many cities dictate a minimum home size, square footage. This makes building a tiny house on a foundation not legally possible. 

There’s also disadvantages to a tiny house on wheels. Since it will be driven down the road, it’ll be confined to street dimensions. There are maximum dimensions allowed without obtaining a special permit.

There are 3 BR tiny houses for sale, but they are actually considered small homes. It’s 410 ft.² base. A family could definitely live comfortably here. The main level has a kitchen, living room and bathroom. The bedrooms are upstairs. You can get a DIY kit for $49,400. 

Luxury tiny homes 
The rich and famous had to get involved. There are luxury tiny homes for sale for as much as $150,000. They offer quality wood, granite countertops, sound systems and even LED lights. One company offers a tiny hot tub.


Modern tiny homes
The best modern tiny homes for sale are overflowing with amenities that are usually found in standard sized homes. Is it cheaper to buy or build tiny homes?
Of course, the cost of a tiny home will depend on the size and style that you want. 

You can search and find free tiny house plans and save money. If you can take them, buy the materials that some have reported getting for around $8000 and build it yourself, that can be a cheap house.

However, if you don’t feel confident building it yourself, you can hire someone for approximately $7000. Still, a good deal.
